In a three-hour dramatic final Anett Kontaveit defeated the Greek Maria Sakkari who was just one serve away from the title. Trailing 2/5 in the first set, Maria heroically fought back, taking 5 games in a row, 7/5. The second set was even closer: after taking the game into a tie-break, Kontaveit level the score (1-1). The Estonian also had the final say in the third decider to win the clash 5/7, 7/6 (7-4), 7/5. All in all the crowd saw 8 breaks throughout the match. According to statistics, Maria Sakkari played more consistently without making a single double fault and was pretty solid from the baseline. The Greek fired 3 aces, Anett also served 3 aces making 3 double faults. “I still can’t believe it! It was a very tough battle, but I’m glad I was able to win.
