The Turk Enki Erel won the international professional tennis tournament ITF WORLD TENNIS TOUR – Grand Palace Cup by Formula TX with a prize money fund worth $15, 000. The event was held on April 12-18 on the courts of the tennis center “Tennis Formula” in Lahta (St. Petersburg). On Sunday, April 18, Erel outplayed in the title match the Russian S. One day earlier, Alexander Cozbinov (Moldova) and Simon Freund (Switzerland) captured the title in doubles outlasting in the finals the Japanese Naoki Tadjima and the Russian Alexey Zakharov 7/6 (5), 2/6, 10-6.
The current tournament caps a unique tennis marathon which kicked off in St. Petersburg this past winter. The concept of the Grand Palace Series tournaments was developed by “Formula Tennis Hockey” company (CEO Natalia Kamelzon) with the Grand Palace boutique gallery and president of the Leningrad region tennis federation Andrey Golubev lending their support. The tournament series aimed at developing professional sport and promoting tennis became a unique event for Russia and will also play an essential role in the careers of the series participants from Russia and foreign countries like Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, USA, Romania, Poland, Turkey, the Netherlands, Croatia, Servia, Slovakia, etc. The series consisted of four tournaments of the ITF World Tennis Tour category with a $15,000 worth prize money fund earmarked for each event named Grand Palace Cup, as well as two tournaments of the series ATP Сhallenger 50 and ATP Сhallenger 80 both named Grand Palace Championship.The series overall prize money fund totaled $148 000.
