The V International WTA Women’s Tennis Tournament St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy will be held in St. Petersburg from Feb. 8 till Feb. 16, 2020 and feature the stars of the world women’s tennis, including the past winners of St. Petersburg’s competitions.
Among those players are Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic (world’s no. 7, St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2018 champion), Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands (world’s no. 8, defending champion of the tournament), the runner-up of St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2019, no. 19 in the world Donna Vekic, and the Russians Ekaterina Alexandrova (no. 35), Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (no. 40), former no. 10 in the world, semifinalist of St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2018 Daria Kasatkina.
It is worth noting that on December 9 for the second year in a row WTA officially announced St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy to be the best WTA tournament in the Premier category according to players’ votes. This time the votes were equally divided between St. Petersburg’s event and Stuttgart’s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, thus honoring both tournaments with the prestigious title.
The letter from the WTA CEO Steve Simon sent to the Tournament Director Natalia Kamelzon read: “This award is an incredible achievement as it recognizes the tremendous amount of dedication, investment in on-court production and welcoming spirit that you and your team provide to ensure the special experience that our WTA athletes enjoy in St. Petersburg.” Steve Simon also noted, “We are very proud to honor you as a standout tournament that has given women’s tennis such a special stage on which to compete.”
